1. Perform hand hygiene and put on gloves. Clean and assess the tracheostomy site per local clinical protocol.
2. Open the sterile pack carefully. Remove the dressing without contaminating the pad.
3. Place the dressing around the tracheostomy tube to absorb secretions and protect surrounding skin. If needed, fold or trim the 10 x 10cm pad to achieve a secure fit.
4. Replace dressing immediately if saturated or every 24 hours, or according to clinical guidance. Dispose of used dressing as clinical waste.
5. Seek clinical advice if excessive discharge, odour, bleeding or skin breakdown occurs.
