Typical contents (may vary by kit): sterile Foley catheter (available in multiple sizes), 10ml syringe for balloon inflation, sterile nitrile or latex-free gloves, antiseptic prep swabs (chlorhexidine or povidone-iodine), sterile drape, sterile lubricant, sterile gauze, drainage bag or tubing, adhesive and a disposal bag. Materials are medical-grade and commonly PVC or silicone for the catheter; many kits include latex-free components. Always check the package label for exact contents and material specifications.

1. Perform hand hygiene and confirm patient identity and indication for catheterization.
2. Open the sterile tray using aseptic technique and prepare the field.
3. Use antiseptic swabs to cleanse the insertion site as instructed by protocol.
4. Lubricate the catheter, insert gently until urine flows (or per clinical guidance), then advance further to position the retention balloon.
5. Attach the 10ml syringe and inflate the balloon with the recommended volume to secure the catheter.
6. Secure catheter, connect drainage tubing/bag, record the procedure and dispose of the tray as clinical waste.
7. Follow institutional guidelines and manufacturer instructions—only trained clinicians or instructed caregivers should perform catheter insertion.
