Ingredients and Materials
This plaster of Paris cast bandage is made from a cotton gauze carrier impregnated with plaster of Paris (calcium sulfate hemihydrate). How to Use
- Prepare the injury site: apply a protective stockinette and appropriate padding to protect skin and bony prominences.
- Cut the 5cm bandage to the required length. Remove any packaging and immerse the bandage briefly in room-temperature water (typically 5–10 seconds) until fully wetted.
- Squeeze out excess water gently — do not wring aggressively. Apply overlapping turns with moderate tension, smoothing each layer to conform to contours.
- Mould and hold the bandage in position until initial set occurs (typically several minutes). Full cure and maximum strength develop over the following 24–48 hours.
- Trim edges and secure with appropriate tape or outer bandage as required. Monitor for comfort and circulation after application.
